- Tibet's First railway
to start unmanned operation

[April 13, 2006] The Golmud-Lhasa section of the Qinghai-Tibet railway
will start unmanned test runs from May 1 in preparation for its trial
operation on July 1.

May 23 (PTI): A record 24 Chinese mountaineers and scientists on Sunday
conquered Mt Everest, kicking off a state-of-the-art effort to re-measure
the world's highest peak and the most comprehensive scientific studies
on the effect of global warming in the Himalayan region.

The death toll from a severe road accident that happened Monday in
northwest China's Qinghai Province rose to 55, local sources told
Xinhua Thursday noon.
- Tibet experiencing warmer winters
(Jan 6th, 2005)
Tang Xiaoping, an engineer from the local climate centre, has analysed
average winter temperatures in the region over the past 30 years.
He found that the temperature in the region has shown an upward trend.
In 1998 and 2000, the region had "abnormally warm" winters.

Tibet Red Cross organized the local people to donate for those who

countries, me, too. In my point of view, traveling to the other countries
is itself a kind of adventure. If you have English as the tool of
communication or conversation after you establish yourself on the

On the steps in front of Drigung Monastery, a dozen monks chant. Before
them on the courtyard flagstones lies a body, wrapped in white cloth,
which was carried in on a stretcher an hour ago. The monks are praying
for a spirit that was once present here, but now is emancipated from
its former home. It is the third such visitor today, for Drigung Gonpa
has a profitable but gruesome specialty: disposal of the dead.
